How hard it is depends on the adhesive that bonds the lens to the housing. In practice, it is mostly butyl or permanent adhesive.
For a perfect seal, we recommend our butyl sealant. It is easy to work with, and if needed, you can reopen the headlight with a heat gun or in an oven.

Light covers for BMW 5 E60 LCI (facelift) including flasher module
The original headlight covers often suffer from yellowing, cracks, damage from stones, or weather conditions. Our covers not only fit perfectly but are also coated with a layer of UV-resistant polyurethanewhich protects against future damage and yellowing.
For a perfect seal we recommend 9.5mm x 4.5m butyl gasket. It is easy to work with and if it is necessary you can then simply unstick the light using a heat gun or oven.
The difficulty of replacement depends on the type of adhesive used to bond the cover to the rest of the light. In practice, butyl and permanent adhesives are mainly used. For E60,61 used permanent adhesivewhich are almost impossible to split and it is possible to avoid cutting off old plexiglass.
